Surgical Services

The operating room is designed for strict aseptic (sterile) surgery using scopes, monitoring and high-tech anesthesia monitoring equipment. The surgeons and technicians wear cap, mask and gown while in this room, which is kept as sterile as possible. Sterile gloves, gowns, instruments and drapes are used for each procedure in the operating room. There are both cardiac and respiratory monitors and an inhalation anesthesia machine using gas anesthesia. We are equipped for all major surgical procedures as well as emergency procedures. For selected orthopedic cases and spinal surgery, there is a variety of specialized instrumentation. All animals in surgery are carefully monitored via their cardiac and respiratory rates. Supportive therapies such as intravenous fluids are utilized when necessary. It is by these means that surgical risk is reduced.
